College of Maritime Sciences
Division of Navigation Science
Division of Navigation Science trains captains who direct, supervise and manage ships, officers who are in charge of safe operation of ships and cargo transport and pilots who safely guide ships from ports. The division maintains an educational system reflecting strict standards such as relevant domestic laws and 「International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW)」 and provides the education that develops intellectual ability, leadership and good character required for a global leader who leads the global maritime transport sector. In addition, it has set up a required major of Nautical Science and selective majors of Ship Operation, Maritime Traffic Management, Marine Safety System, etc. in response to the demand of talented manpower in the maritime transport area including researchers, civil servants and lawyers covering various land and marine transports, maritime transport and coast guards and operates education curricula that can develop various talents of individuals.
Division of Maritime Transportation
Division of Maritime Transportation aims to train excellent sailors responsible for maritime transportation through ship operation in global trade. Its goal is to educate global marine talents who can operate in the fields of marine transport, port, international logistics as well as ship operation, both foreign and domestic To this end, the curricula of the 1st year, 2nd year and 4th year include the basic major of nautical science, and advanced majors (logistic system, shipping management, marine safety and autonomous operation for smart ship). The 3rd-year students will experience practical training of nautical science and advanced majors through hands-on training at a training ship and visiting advanced ports abroad. The curriculum presents a vision to the students to grow into future global marine talents.
Division of Navigation and Information Systems
Division of Navigation and Information Systems was newly established to train marine technicians equipped with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to lead the marine science and maritime transport and has an educational goal to train captains and officers that direct, lead and manage ships along with marine global leaders equipped with ICT knowledge. After graduation, students can be employed as commercial-ship officers and at the same time, complete military service by serving 3 years on board. Depending on their choice, they can advance into experts in the field of maritime transportation such as captain or pilot or become executives at shipping company, ship inspectors, cargo directors, naval officers, coast guards, public servants of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, maritime transport controllers, researchers of marine research institutes or professors at marine/fisheries colleges. They can also advance into information and communication companies (Radio Promotion Agency, broadcasting companies, mobile communication companies, navigation/communication equipment development companies, etc.)
Division of Marine Engineering System
Division of Marine Engineering System trains engineers that design and operate key parts of a ship, such as main engine, auxiliary machinery, and electrical and electronic automation system. To this end, it offers basic education for operation of advanced engine systems, as well as advanced education course for mechanical convergence and electrical control to train engineers in the field of machinery, electronics, offshore plant, power plant and heavy industry. It also operates a teaching course for training secondary school teachers in fisheries and marine system.
This division is a leading division for the socially customized Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC+) of the Ministry of Education. Students can select convergence track curriculum instead of advanced major curriculum. The division offers a field-based convergence curriculum required by the industry which students can take from their second year. It is based on employment agreements with major shipping companies in Korea. By working jointly with industries, the division trains socially customized key manpower in LNG-powered ship, ship ICT and smart liquid cargo control areas.
Division of Coast Guard
Division of Coast Guard aims to train marine technicians and marine specialists who will engage in the fields of efficient operation, design and manufacture of the next-generation marine power system as well as coast guard officers with a strong sense of responsibility to protect marine sovereignty and maritime security and safety. The basic major is Marine Engineering that deals with ship engine system and the advanced majors are Ocean Power System for convergence engineering in the ocean and maritime area including propulsion system of ships and maritime plants and Marine Police Science for training coast guards.
Students in this division can enter the fields of machinery, offshore plants, and electrical and automation industries as well as become marine engineers of ships and coast guards through various governmental supports and education systems based on relevant domestic and international laws.
Division of Marine Mechatronics
Division of Marine Mechatronics aims to train advanced marine manpower who will engage in the efficient operation and maintenance of ship engine systems and the operation and research and development of electronic engine systems. The ship engine system is a complex system converged with power machinery, cooling and air-conditioning system, automated navigation system and electronic engine system. For the stable operation of the ship and the operation and development of the advanced ship driving system, highly specialized technical manpower is required.
Division of Marine Mechatronics aims to train engineers specialized in high-quality mechanical and electronic convergence systems and offers the first major of engine engineering and the second major of electronic engine convergence in the advanced level to train marine technicians fully equipped with practicality and specialty. The graduates of this division have advanced to commercial ships, and various industries of machinery, plant, electric and automobile as specialists in ship-related machinery through various governmental support and systematic education system. It pursues education for multi-functional engineers who can enter various fields including Korea Electric Power Corp. as well as marine machinery industry.
Division of Naval Officer Science
Division of Naval Officer Science aims to train elite naval officers and advanced marine engineers by educating marine expertise for marine engineers and officers and military expertise in naval military science. The curriculum is composed of marine equipment courses of navigation science or engineering systems, general courses of liberal arts and leadership and naval military science courses of maritime strategies.
